Coexist
Coexist is my love letter to Jurong Lake Gardens, a place where I often take long strolls, watching squirrels dart around and admiring the rows of Casuarina trees that line Taman Jurong. During the COVID-19 pandemic, it felt as though everything had shifted into the digital realm, including workshops, which moved online. This inspired the theme of Coexisting — living alongside the digital world.
I conducted an online workshop covering basic principles of design and an introduction to Figma for Taman Jurong residents. Together, we collaborated on the individual banners featured in this installation. Figma was my tool of choice because it’s free, has an intuitive interface, and offers an easy learning curve for design production. For practice, I created a "teaching squirrel" to guide participants in making images using preset shapes and the pen tool within the app.
This is my largest outdoor installation to date and truly a dream project. Thank you, Jurong—you will always be my favorite. #westsidebestside
The banner was displayed on the facade of 359 Corporation Road, Singapore, from February to July 2022.
